Lesson 1: The Power Of Media Exposure

While getting your name or business featured or profiled in the media is a major accomplishment that feels incredibly exciting, there are so many other benefits to media exposure, some of which you may not be aware of. Here are just a few of them:

  • Increased sales

  • Better brand awareness

  • Higher authority as an expert

  • Improved SEO through backlinks and web traffic

  • Better Google page ranking

  • More social media followers and engagement on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and other platforms

Once you know the power of media exposure and how it improves all facets of your business and marketing, not only will you be excited to implement the strategies you’ll learn in Pitch Please, but as you start to get results (it can happen pretty quickly), you will be even more motivated to keep pitching.

Lesson 2: Your Resource Guide

There are lots of great resources that can help you find reporters, editors, and journalists to reach out to. Some of these are even free, including HARO (Help A Reporter Out). This is one of the most powerful tools businesses can start using immediately to get featured online, in print publications, and even on television and radio. We share some of the best secrets to using HARO, what it takes to get a journalist’s attention and truly stand out amongst the competition.

But HARO isn’t the only resource that you need to know about. We cover similar services, subscriptions, newsletters, and whether or not they are worth your time and money.

Lesson 3: Cold Pitch Strategies

Cold pitching sounds scary, but it doesn’t have to be. In Lesson 3, you will learn how to simplify the process by creating a template and learning exactly what information you need to include in nearly every pitch you will write for your business.

By creating a template, you ultimately save time and energy in the future. It also gives you a gauge of what you’re doing that works and what does not work.

While everything we teach in the online publication relations course, Pitch Please is helpful, you'll really want to focus on this unit. That's because once you master the cold pitch, everything else will feel fairly easy in comparison.

Lesson 4: Making A Cold Pitch Hot & Sexy

Once you establish what information you want your cold pitch to include and the formatting, you need to level it up. This unit includes helpful tips not just from the course creators, but also tips from other writers and editors. We also share examples of real email pitches that worked. But more importantly, we go into depth about why these pitches grabbed the writer’s attention, what made them stand out from the rest of the pitches in their inbox and what you can take away from them and apply to any business or brand.

This aspect of PR is covered in depth in our online public relations course, Pitch, Please!

Lesson 5: The Art of The Follow Up

Some writers and editors can get 100 or more pitches every single day. And no one has the time to sort through and respond to every single email. Don't get intimidated. (SPOILER ALERT), more likely than not, you will need to follow up on your pitch. However, there is an art to this.

While you want media coverage, there’s a fine line between making a power move and being a stalker. Pitch Please will teach you how to tread the water in this in-between stage, as well as the dos and don'ts to working with writers and influencers.

Lesson 6: How to Leverage Social Media

To DM or not to DM: That is the question

Can you tell this course has a sense of humor yet?

Social media is a great way to get press coverage, but it’s also tricky. In this module, you will learn how to leverage various social media platforms. We go over the basics including what information your social media pages should and should not have. Furthermore, we discuss what platforms are best for particular purposes, media planning, and how to efficiently use your time on social media.

Additionally, we delve into the power of Facebook Groups and how they can change your business in ways you can’t even imagine.

Lesson 7: Curating Your Press Kit

All businesses need to have a media kit. In this unit, we cover the information your press kit needs to include, what it shouldn’t include, and share examples of press kits, so you have a template to draw from.

We also explain why your press kit needs to be aesthetically appealing, as well as share free resources like Canva and low-cost ones such as Etsy.
New brands, startups, bloggers, and influencers will really benefit from this module in particular because it teaches what you need to share if your business is pre-revenue or you're still building your social media platforms.

Lesson 8: Podcast Pitching

Podcasts are a major part of the media today. It’s important for brands, coaches, and especially anyone involved in personal development or wellness to pitch themselves to podcasts. This allows potential clients and followers to get to know you. After all, podcasts have very captive audiences.

This module covers not only why you need to get on podcasts, but also how to research the right podcasts to pitch and how you need to pitch them differently than you would another type of media.
